For the first Sunday after Christmas, the church focuses on the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. The Gospel reading comes from Luke 2:41-52. In this passage, Jesus’ family has completed the customary Jewish tradition of journeying from their home in Nazareth to Jerusalem to celebrate Passover. It is on the return home with family and friends all around them, that Mary and Joseph realize Jesus is not among them. Returning to Jerusalem, they find him still in the temple. Jesus finds it strange his parents are worried that he could be anywhere else. To us, it is no surprise that Jesus would be most at home there, in the house of his Father. Church is a wonderful place and source of peace and calming to so many of us. It is one reason there is such a great outpouring of attendance at the holidays…we all flock home to that place of our youth to worship the Lord and want to bring our families to. It is a place where we know we are always welcome and can leave feeling refreshed by the Holy Spirit and to #livemysunday each day of the week.
