This week is the Second Sunday of Easter, of which there are seven, and the Gospel reading for today is John 20:19-31. Jesus has returned to his disciples after his resurrection. The disciples have been locked in a room, frightened and afraid, and are wallowing in that immense feeling of grief and sadness after losing a beloved friend, their Lord. They feel that all hope is gone. And then…he is there. In their time of sorrow, he appears to be with them. He greets them with “Peace be with you.” Arriving to them in this way, Jesus settles their broken hearts with his greeting. He has come to begin his work that they may truly know and believe. He must ready them for their journey ahead. His parting words give us all something to reflect on, “Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.” The faith we possess as Christians must be exactly this, especially in the times we are frightened, lonely, scared, or grief-stricken like the disciples. We believe in the risen Jesus who is there for us even when we cannot physically see him in our presence. We carry on with our days and #livemysunday with the peace of knowing He is our Lord and our God!
