As we enter the Third Week of Easter the church encounters John 21:1-19 as the gospel reading this week. Jesus has returned yet again, in the flesh, to his disciples who are failing at catching any fish. At first, they do not recognize him but when they do follow and his recommendation, they catch more fish than they can even pull in! But truly, the most remarkable part of this story is when Jesus and Peter find themselves alone after breaking bread and sharing a feast of the fish. Peter, the one who denied Jesus three times the night before his death, is questioned here three times again by Jesus and is asked if he loves him. Now he easily replies all three times, “Yes Lord; you know that I love you.” And can we say the same? Do we love Jesus? Like, really love him? Can we answer with an emphatic “Yes!” if he were to show up? We can show that our answer is “Yes!” daily when we treat others with respect, are inclusive, take care of the poor and elderly, and exhibit kindness to everyone we encounter. We say “Yes!” to Jesus when we #livemysunday in those very ways.
