Sunday 4/3/2022
Today is the Fifth Sunday in Lent and the Gospel reading is from John 8:1-11. The passage is centered on a woman that has been brought to Jesus, by the Pharisees and scribes, who has been caught in the act of adultery. They have hoped to put Jesus in an impossible situation…either he agrees with Jewish law and lets her be stoned for her crime, going against his compassionate teaching persona, or he goes against Jewish teaching, which would be a grave mistake made by any traditional practicing Jewish person. They are clearing testing him and believe they have Jesus cornered. So, what is he to do when placed in this predicament? He poses the perfect remark, “Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” They can’t do it. He exposes that not one of them is perfect and they know it. Even still, Jesus’s protection and care of the woman does not end there. He tells her to go on and sin no more. It’s a second chance, the dawn of a new day for her. And like you and me, we are given a new chance to sin no more at the feet of our Jesus. Walk around with your head held high this week when you #livemysunday knowing your redeemer wants the best for you and has your back, even when you are far from perfect.
