The church celebrates the Sixth Sunday of Easter with the Gospel reading from John 14:23-29. Jesus is giving some parting words to his disciples; ultimately preparing them for his impending departure. How will they continue on without him? He assures them that God the Father will send an Advocate in his place, the Holy Spirit. It will be there to guide them and teach them, so that they may carry on the work that Jesus has begun. It will be the breath of life to the soon-to-be Apostles. How could they imagine a world without Jesus and how could they ever hope to carry his torch? They would not be forgotten about or left alone. The Father has provided for them. They do not have to be afraid. He will be with them; for the Holy Spirit will be sent to dwell among them and among us as well. We are never to be without His presence. We can rest easy because we have the peace of the Lord in our midst. Take a moment this week when things are busy to #livemysunday and remember that you are never truly alone. God is among us everywhere we look.
