In this week’s Gospel reading for the 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Mark 5:21-43, we witness two healing miracles that happen in the presence of Jesus. The first story begins with a little girl in dire need of help, whose death is otherwise imminent, but it is interrupted by a healing story of another. A woman who only ends up touching the end of Jesus’s coat has her perfect health restored. It is the delay from Jesus seeking to find the one whom he indirectly healed, that causes the first young girl to pass away, seemingly missing her time to be healed. However, her father is simply told to not be afraid and have faith by Jesus and then his daughter is brought back to life. Both stories offer the sentiment that when we have faith and muster the courage to not be afraid, Jesus can do big things! Center yourself this week around that comforting notion; that Jesus does wonders for those that carry faith and are brave enough to not be afraid. Sometimes it’s not easy to do both, but give it your best effort and see where it leads you, especially as you strive to #livemysunday each and every day.
