Today’s Gospel reading for the 24^th Sunday in Ordinary Time comes from Mark 8:27-35 (others, through 38). In it, we see Jesus finally beginning to address some of the heavy matters for this first time in the Gospel of Mark. To be a truly committed follower of Christ, to be a disciple, he tells us what it will have to look like; to deny oneself and take up your cross. But what does that mean? What is Jesus talking about? It means putting your trust in his ways and not your own and by carrying the burden of pain and/or suffering even when it seems unfair and uncomfortable. Jesus is not promising the way will be easy and we must be accepting of that.  Living a life on earth for worldly things will never bring eternally glory, only Christ can bring us that. As a disciple, listen to and follow Christ’s call by carrying your own cross with courage like Jesus, as you #livemysunday
