Today’s Gospel reading for the 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time is from Mark 7:31-37 (others, Mark 7:24-37). In the reading, Jesus completely heals a deaf mean who also has trouble speaking; he restores him so that he may hear wholly and speak clearly. Why did he do this? And more importantly, you may ask, why does Jesus continue to tell those who witnessed the miracle not to share what they’ve seen him do? One answer may be that he is seeking to remain humble in light of the magnificent things he can share with and do for others. He needs no fanfare for his works. This is an especially good motto to emulate in our day-to-day lives as well. Do we do things for the recognition or simply because it is the right way to act and behave? If we give of our time, money, or talent can we do so without sharing it with others? God knows what we do and why; there is no need to boast as you go about and #livemysunday
