Sunday 1/9/2022

As the new church year continues to unfold, the Sunday after celebrating the Epiphany always leads us to the Baptism of the Lord. Jesus’s cousin, John, baptizes not only Jesus but also the many who were gathered there.  Scripture tells us they “were filled with expectation” to know whether one of the men standing there was in fact the Messiah, the Christ. (Luke 3:15). Can you imagine placing yourself at that scene? What emotions might you feel if you had heard whispers of such a man being sent to fulfill the old prophecy and wondering if he now stood before you? Would witnessing his Baptism increase your faithfulness? Think about any Baptisms you have witnessed. It can be a moving and poignant experience to help welcome the Church’s newest members; it has a way of reigniting and renewing our own faithfulness. Take a moment to think about your own Baptism or that of anyone else’s you’ve attended, as a way to #livemysunday and reflect on how the Holy Spirit moved you while you were in attendance.
