The Church enters the Sixth Sunday of Ordinary Time with the Gospel reading taken from Luke 6:17, 20-26. Jesus is preaching to another new crowd and it is one that is eagerly awaiting his healing powers and words. Jesus comes through with an influential address that leaves us all with something to ponder. We can take the words in verses 20-22 and feel invigorated that there is a God who loves us and will provide for us comfort and good outcomes. We can also hear the words he speaks in verses 24-26 and feel a bit surprised. What are we to do with verses like these and how do we process them? One way to interpret them would be to understand them within the context of how we experience life; that we ebb and flow between the ups and down and the good and the bad. It is a very real sentiment that each and every one of us can relate to. As we #livemysunday we can find the strength to carry on knowing that the God who made the heavens and earth also made each of us and therefore already knows the trails and triumphs that we all encounter.
