In this week’s Gospel reading for the Fourth Sunday of Easter, John 10:11-18, Jesus is speaking to the Pharisees, which helps us better understand the context of this reading. In it, Jesus is explaining to them the bond between a shepherd and his flock versus that of hired help shepherding the same flock. He is saying that no one will truly take care of the sheep like their owner or will even come close to loving and protecting them at all costs like they would. Not only is Jesus showcasing the Father’s great love and care in this story, but he also uses it as an opportunity to indirectly tell the Pharisees this is the opposite of how they behave, for they often separate themselves from their Jewish people. Ultimately the story strengthens our understanding of God’s compassion and sense of belonging to us. When the time is critical, He never abandons His flock. To know that you are in God our Father’s flock should be of great comfort. He will love you like no other, endlessly and limitlessly. You are one of His. Reflect on that this Sunday and be sure to share your own thoughts of this when you #livemysunday
