This week’s Gospel reading is taken from Luke 11:1-13 for the Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. Jesus addresses two major points this Sunday. One, how to pray and two, the nature of God as our Father. Of course, in the passage, he is addressing the people of his day but what can we take away from this as 21stcentury Christians? First and foremost, that prayer is paramount. Knowing that it is so important to our spiritual life Jesus gave us the gift of prayer with the Lord’s Prayer. If ever there is a time in your prayer life that you feel stuck in a rut or don’t know what to bring to the Lord, pray the prayer the Jesus taught us. It’s foundational nature has the power to ground us each and every time we pray it. Also in today’s reading, Jesus reveals how we can trust in the Lord as our Father. He is loving and would never deceive us, just as a father would go to the ends of the earth to protect his child. We have nothing to fear with God as our Father. So this week, we are renewed by the words of Jesus that we have a good Father who wants the best for us and that we should not be without prayer in our life. Let that winning combination guide you as you continue to #livemysunday each and every day this week!
